The Cartographers | Peng Shepherd

They're not comparing our map to the world-they are comparing the world to our map.
I never thought I would get excited to read about a story revolving cartographers and maps. After reading the blurb of the book, I was really hooked into the concept and really wanted to like this book. It started the right way, the introduction to the world of maps and what exactly happens in the cartographers industry and whole bunch of characters who loved about maps more than anything in the world. But, as the story progressed there were a lot of questions that arose which I believed will be answered at the end of the book, but I felt like it was answered only in more plot holes.

One of the main problems that I found in this book was that there were lot of characters in this book who were related to each other in one way or the other, none of their relationships were developed good. You can see that the characters have known each other for so long, but it does not feel it that way. There are no personal traits discussed in the book about any of the characters which made me not connect with any one of them, not even with the protagonist, which is very bad thing in a book.

There were a lot of twists and suspense in the book along with the fantastical element in the book which I really did not expect and it was enjoyable too. One thing that I had to appreciate the author is that all the references to the maps were made from the real world and I was very surprised to go and read about them online and found everything to be accurate.

I really wanted to love this book, made myself to believe that it is not a problem with all the ambiguous end to the book, but the more plot holes and unanswered questions that I found at the end of the book had me disappointed and I wish it was handled much better.
